Following the welcome news that Kirkcaldy High Street and seafront was awarded £20 million from the UK Government’s Growth Mission Fund in the Autumn budget, Fife Council is inviting residents and businesses to a series of drop-in sessions taking place at the Old Kirk, Kirk Wynd, Kirkcaldy KY1 1EN on:
- Wednesday 4 February between 2:30-5.00pm
- Thursday 5 February between 5:30-8.00pm
These drop-in sessions are open to everyone and offer an opportunity to:
- hear what’s planned so far for the town centre and waterfront
- understand how this investment fits into the bigger picture for Kirkcaldy
- speak directly with council officers and ask questions
What’s happening now
Fife Council submitted proposals to the UK Government last month, setting out a bold vision for part of Kirkcaldy’s waterfront. This includes a new multi-use building designed to help grow Kirkcaldy’s economy. The contract for this first phase of work is now live on Public Contract Scotland.
Proposals include:
- Demolishing derelict buildings to better connect the High Street and waterfront
- Creating a vibrant growth hub for local innovation, creativity, heritage, and community activity – inspired by Kirkcaldy’s own Adam Smith
Responding to community feedback
The proposal reflects priorities identified through Melanie Ward MP’s public consultation and council-led engagement sessions with local groups and businesses. Feedback highlighted the need for:
- A more attractive waterfront with space for businesses
- A welcoming town centre for visitors
- Demolition of derelict buildings and modern replacements
Next steps and engagement
- Subject to final confirmation of proposals, funding will start to become available in the next financial year (April 2026-March 2027).
- Regular updates will be shared via www.fife.gov.uk/news, social media, and with local media.
- There will be opportunities throughout 2026 for the community to influence the development plans.
Ken Gourlay, Chief Executive of Fife Council, said: “We appreciate that updates have been limited while the proposal was being developed and funding was uncertain. Moving forward, we’re committed to clear, regular communication so everyone knows how this investment is being used.
“We’re grateful to everyone who took part in consultations. Your feedback directly shaped the priorities in our proposal – from improving the waterfront to creating spaces for enterprise and community use. This is a transformative opportunity for Kirkcaldy and, the first step in regenerating Kirkcaldy’s town centre. Although it will take time; we’re excited to deliver something new for – and with - residents."
David Ross, Leader of Fife Council, added: “This is another step in this exciting journey. Regeneration isn’t about one site or one pot of money, but a long-term, connected plan for Kirkcaldy and nearby communities. Every project plays a role in shaping a more confident and prosperous future for Kirkcaldy, and we’re working with partners like Fife College, NHS Fife and community organisations to develop that connected plan.
“Currently under construction is the new Templehall Community Hub, a place where people will be able to learn, grow and thrive. This sort of people focused investment creates the conditions for healthier lives, bigger aspirations and sustainable economic growth in the area.
“The Growth Mission funding will help us improve town centre spaces where communities meet, work, trade, get creative and try new things. We’re laying the foundations for businesses and local people to succeed.
“We’ll continue to work closely with local people to shape Kirkcaldy’s future, and these drop-in events are the next step in an ongoing conversation."
