Fife Council is urging Christmas school leavers to explore local employment opportunities as they step into the New Year. The council offers lots of opportunities to get paid, train and grow with the organisation. With flexible and part-time roles that can work well alongside college courses or other commitments, there are opportunities to train and progress while in employment.

Sharon McKenzie, Head of Human Resources, Fife Council, said: “If you are a Christmas leaver, graduate or looking for a fresh start, and you are not in full-time education, training or employment, there are positions available with Fife Council that may be just what you are looking for. If you are still deciding on your next steps and which path to take, Fife Council has options available for young people when they leave school.
“As a council, we aim to support our young people even after leaving school. Many roles with Fife Council offer upskilling and training as part of your role, with the opportunity to gain recognised professional qualifications.”
A range of positions with minimal entry requirements are open to recent school leavers, with on-the-job support to help build confidence, skills and experience. Opportunities include Childcare Practitioner, Pupil Support Assistant, Catering Assistant, Care Assistant, Home Carer, Cleaner and Assistant Janitor roles. More of Fife’s young people moving onto positive destinations
Fife's young people are increasingly moving on to positive destinations. Six months after leaving school in 2025, more young people were in work, education, or training compared to the previous year.
Secondary school leaver outcomes are strong in Fife, with the latest results showing that sustained positive destinations (young people going into further or higher education, training or employment) have risen to 94.1%, above the national figure of 93.1%, and the highest level seen in Fife for six years.
Cllr Cara Hilton, Fife Council's Education Spokesperson, said: “Positive destinations for our young people are so important and reflect the hard work and dedication of young people, school staff and teachers.
“This year more young people are going on to employment, training or higher education. We are committed to raising attainment and achievement for all our children and young people. There many routes that reflect individual aspirations, strengths and goals. Young people can follow a wide range of career pathways that value both their knowledge and their skills.”
