Committee backs funding for festive city centre celebration

Dunfermline's Christmas Lights Switch-On has been given a festive boost.

The City of Dunfermline Area Committee has approved £25,000 to support this year's event.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place in Dunfermline city centre on Sunday 15 November, marking the start of the city's festive celebrations. The day will feature a range of free and low-cost family activities, alongside entertainment, performances and opportunities for local groups to get involved.

Funding will help cover essential event costs, including stewarding, security, first aid, staging, lighting and power supplies. The event aims to bring people together, create a welcoming atmosphere in the city centre and support local businesses by attracting more visitors during the festive season.

Cllr James Calder, Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, said: "The Christmas Lights Switch-On is one of Dunfermline's most popular community events. It brings thousands of people into the city centre and helps kick-start the festive season.

"The event creates a great atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. It also provides vital support for local businesses and showcases everything our city has to offer."

The celebration also supports ambitions identified through the Dunfermline New City Assembly. These include creating a vibrant city centre and celebrating Dunfermline's culture and community spirit.
