Cash boost to support Blairhall’s new Community Action Plan

Blairhall is set to benefit from new investment after Area Committee agreed £12,000 for implementing the Blairhall Community Action Plan.

The funding will help residents take forward the priorities they identified for improving the village. The Community Action Plan was created by local volunteers through the Biggin’ up Blairhall group, in partnership with Blairhall Primary School, the Community Centre Management Committee, Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Fife Council.

Using local views gathered through surveys, a village walkabout and community discussions, four key themes emerged:

  • traffic and parking
  • transport and travel
  • play and recreation
  • care and maintenance

The new funding will support the group to begin delivering these improvements and to produce printed copies of the plan.

Key actions set out in the plan include:

1. Making travel around Blairhall safer and easier

  • Improving visibility and safety at bus stops on the A907.
  • Exploring options for new bus shelters, seating and clearer timetable information.
  • Looking at ways to improve access into the village with better signage and junction layouts.

2. Tackling traffic issues and irresponsible parking

  • Reviewing calming measures and road markings on key streets such as Rintoul Avenue, Woodlands Terrace and South Avenue.
  • Identifying areas where additional parking could help reduce congestion.
  • Strengthening active travel routes and improving lighting on footpaths.

3. Upgrading local play and recreation spaces

  • Replacing the existing playpark with new and accessible equipment.
  • Improving surfaces, markings and lighting at the multi‑use games area.
  • Expanding social and recreational opportunities for children, young people and families within the village.

4. Enhancing the look and feel of Blairhall

  • Adding more bins, dog waste facilities, recycling points and signage.
  • Creating new flower beds, seating areas and better used greenspaces.
  • Supporting local volunteers to form an action group to help with small maintenance and improvement tasks.

Cllr David Barratt, Area Convener for South and West Fife said: “Residents have shaped this plan from the start, and this funding will help bring their ideas to life. The Community Action Plan is a great example of local people coming together to make positive changes for their village.”

Printed copies of the plan will be available soon, ensuring everyone in the village can see what’s planned.
