Yet another milestone has been marked on the way to the new Caledonia High School opening it's doors to pupils and staff in August this year.

We've now reached the 200 days mark and excitement is certainly building in both the school and the wider community.

The new Caledonia High School, being built to replace Inverkeithing High School will have capacity to accommodate 1735 pupils, over three floors, with an open 'see and be seen' approach throughout the school.

Work has been progressing rapidly and staff and pupils from Inverkeithing High School along with the feeder primary schools have had a few visits to oversee the work.

Following a visit at the end of last year pupils made comments such as -  "it's really modern and different"; "it's giant!"; "there are so many different aspects to suit all different pupils, it's great";  and "it's accessible and it's inclusive, with lots of different spaces to work in"

The new school is eagerly anticipated by pupils and staff and will bring many benefits including:

  • fully accessible and flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for learning, supporting interdisciplinary learning, and linking different subject areas together
  • improved facilities for pupils who need additional support day to day
  • an assembly hall which can accommodate 350 pupils with retractable, tiered seating that can be moved away to allow the space to be used for a variety of purposes
  • enhanced digital capacity, modern IT and Wi-Fi access which will increase the opportunities for digital learning both for individual learners and community groups
  • a low energy building built to Passivhaus principles which will use around 75% less energy than standard practice for a UK new build
  • a wide and varied community learning programme in modern, purpose-built facilities in evenings and at weekends
  • a mixture of all-weather pitches and grass pitches as well as multi-use games facilities that will be available for community use

This school will be the latest in our programme to renew all our secondary schools. It marks a total capital investment of £88m from the Council, with revenue funding support from Scottish Government.
