Sports clubs, charities, voluntary organisations and community groups across Fife are invited to apply for a share of a new Summer of Sport Fund, designed to help more children and young people get active locally. The fund, delivered by Fife Council in partnership with sportscotland, will provide grants to organisations that can widen access or create free or low-cost sporting and physical activity opportunities for young people aged 3 to 26. Applications open today, Monday 10 August 2026, and will close on Friday 21 August at 5pm, with funding expected to support up to 40 clubs and community organisations across Fife. The fund forms part of a wider £840,000 investment secured for Fife through the Scottish Government-backed Summer of Sport 2026 programme, which is increasing participation in sport and tackling barriers that prevent young people from getting active. Grants of between £2,500 and £5,000 will be available for projects ranging from holiday activity programmes and coaching sessions to community sports events, inclusive activities and equipment hire. Funding is available to a wide range of organisations, including sports clubs, community sport hubs, registered charities, trusts, voluntary groups and community organisations operating in Fife. Organisations are being encouraged to come forward with ideas that will leave a lasting legacy. Cllr Linda Erskine, spokesperson for Communities and Leisure with Fife Council, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Fife-based sports clubs, charities and community organisations to access funding that will directly benefit our local children and young people. "We know that cost, transport and access can all be barriers to taking part in sport. "This funding will help local groups create opportunities close to home, making it easier for more young people to get active, try something new and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits that sport can bring." The Summer of Sport 2026 programme builds on the excitement surrounding a landmark year for sport, including the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and the FIFA World Cup 2026. Projects seeking funding should support one or more of the following aims:
