Speed Limits to be reduced through Crossford and Cairneyhill

Work will start on 16th June to reduce the speed limit to 20mph through Crossford and Cairneyhill and to 40mph on the A994 between the two villages. Over the week, new signage will be put in place to make drivers aware of the changes to the speed limit, and to encourage them to drive appropriately.

The introduction of the 20mph speed limit comes as a result of the new Scottish Government initiative to reduce speed limits on all appropriate urban roads by the end of 2025. The 40mph resulted from community requests.

The Scottish Government 20mph Implementation Guide outlines how reducing the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph in urban areas can have a significant impact on road safety.

Cllr. James Calder, Convenor, City of Dunfermline Area Committee said: “The introduction of the 20mph speed limit in Crossford and Cairneyhill and the 40mph on the A994 is an important step in improving road safety for residents.

Cllr. David Barrett, Convenor, South and West Fife Area Committee, added: "Reducing the limits ensures that drivers have more time to respond to unexpected events and significantly reduces the risk of fatal accidents.”
