Speed limits to be reduced in Saline and Steelend

Cllr David Barratt

Fife Council will begin work to reduce the speed limits on the B914 through Steelend to 30mph, and Main Street and West Road, Saline to 20mph next week.

Over the week, new signage will be put in place to make drivers aware of the changes to the speed limits, and to encourage them to drive appropriately.

The introduction of the 20mph speed limit comes as a result of requests from the local community and the new Scottish Government initiative to reduce speed limits on all appropriate urban roads by the end of 2025. Reducing the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph in urban areas can have a significant impact on road safety.

Cllr. David Barratt, Convenor, South and West Fife Area Committee, said: “The introduction of the 20mph speed limit in Saline is an important step in improving road safety for residents. Reducing the limits ensures that drivers have more time to respond to unexpected events and significantly reduces the risk of fatal accidents."

Reduced speed limits will also be implemented on the A994, to 20mph through Crossford and Cairneyhill, and 40mph between the two villages from week beginning June 16.
