Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will visit Dunfermline’s Heritage Quarter to rededicate the city’s World War 1 War Memorial as it marks its 100th anniversary.
Princess Anne, HRH the Princess Royal, will be visiting Dunfermline on Friday, 26th September to mark the centenary and rededication of Dunfermline’s WWI memorial.
The royal visit will mark 100 years since the first dedication, to pay tribute to the brave individuals from the community who gave their lives during the First World War.
The afternoon will begin at 2.45pm with a procession from Dunfermline Abbey to the memorial led by The Lowland Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Princess Royal will arrive and be met by Fife's Vice Lord-Lieutenant Fiona Robertson and introduced to the Deputy Provost of Fife Cllr Dave Dempsey, Deputy Lieutenant Jim Leggat MBE, Community Manager Andrew Gallacher and Dunfermline Area Convenor Cllr James Calder.
The ceremony at the World War I memorial will begin at 3.20pm and will include a short address and unveiling of the re-dedication plaque by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal. A key highlight of the ceremony will be the playing of “In Honorem” by David Stephen, which was composed for, and first played at, the original dedication service 100 years ago.
Following the ceremony HRH the Princess Royal will meet with veterans, families of the fallen, local school children and youth groups.
HRH will then depart and invited guests will make their way to the Glen Pavillion, accompanied by Dunfermline District (RBLS) Pipe Band.
The rededication of the memorial comes after extensive work to repair and refurbish it, to ensure its longevity for future generations.
