Partnership working key to Community Learning and Development summer programme success

Councillors on the Glenrothes Area Committee heard that working together was the key to this year’s successful Community Learning and Development (CLD) and partners summer programme.

The programme received £31,286 from the Area Committee and used it to run lots of activities along with local partners, including YMCA Glenrothes, Collydean Community Centre and Gilvenbank Community Sports Hub.

There was something for everyone – from family events like Summer in the Park to youth projects, help for Primary 7 pupils moving to high school, and sessions for young people who needed extra support.

The programme made a big difference for 1711 children and young people, parents and carers, adult and youth volunteers during the six-week school holiday. Here’s what stood out:

  • Working together: CLD joined forces with partners, schools, youth projects, local groups, and volunteers to make it happen.
  • Making money go further: Careful planning meant we could offer lots of activities without spending too much.
  • Positive impact: Activities helped build confidence, social skills, healthy eating habits, and gave young people safe places to spend time.

Thanks to Café Inc and volunteers, free food was available at all events – one less thing for parents to worry about.

Councillor John Beare, Convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee, said:
"The summer holidays can be tough for many families, I’m delighted to hear how the CLD and partners summer programme helped and made things easier for those who took part.

“This summer showed what we can achieve when we work together. By sharing resources and ideas, we delivered a programme that really made a difference for children, young people, and families across Glenrothes."
