Two important heritage projects in North East Fife have received a significant financial boost following decisions made at the latest North East Fife Area Committee meeting.
Members of the committee have approved a grant of £15,000 from the Graves Dressing Fund to support the Crail Preservation Trust’s Mural Monuments XIX & XVI Conservation Project at Crail Cemetery. This funding will contribute to vital conservation work on the unique mural monuments, which are of significant historical and cultural value. The project builds on previous restoration efforts and will include masonry repairs and specialist conservation work by Graciela Ainsworth Studio.
In addition, the committee has agreed to allocate £8,316 from the St Andrews Common Good Fund for roof maintenance at the Fisherman’s Stores at St Andrews Harbour. The B-listed building, which is a Common Good asset, has suffered weather-related damage, and the funding will enable interim repairs to ensure the building remains wind and watertight, protecting its tenants and preserving its heritage.
Councillor Jonny Tepp, Convenor of the North East Fife Area Committee, welcomed the decisions:
“These projects reflect our commitment to preserving the rich heritage of North East Fife. The mural monuments in Crail Cemetery are a unique part of our local history, and the Fisherman’s Stores are a vital part of the St Andrews harbour community.
"I’m pleased we’ve been able to support both initiatives, ensuring these important sites are protected for future generations.”
