New tourism workshop aims to balance benefits and challenges in Culross

South and West Fife Area Committee has approved £5,454 from the Local Community Planning Budget to support a ‘SCOTO Press Pause’ workshop in Culross.

This initiative will help the community and local businesses explore a balanced approach to tourism development and management.

Culross has seen a significant rise in visitor numbers in recent years, largely due to its popularity as a filming location. Tourism has brought clear benefits - boosting local businesses and supporting the wider South and West Fife economy. It has also created challenges for residents whose daily lives are affected by increased activity.

The Press Pause® workshop will bring together community representatives, businesses and stakeholders to develop an activity plan. This plan will aim to protect the character of Culross while ensuring tourism continues to deliver economic and cultural benefits.

South and West Fife Area Convener, Councillor David Barratt, said: "Tourism is vital for our local economy and brings real opportunities for communities like Culross. However, we must also listen to residents and make sure growth is managed in a way that respects daily life.

“This workshop is an important step towards creating a sustainable approach that works for everyone."

The project will take place over the winter. The findings and recommendations will help create a wider plan involving Fife Council and other agencies. Together, they will work with the community to tackle concerns and explore new opportunities.
