Members agree to Hill of Beath community improvements

Hill of BeathMembers of Cowdenbeath Area Committee have approved of the reallocation of funds from the Community Recovery Fund (CRF) to support vital community improvements and pedestrian safety in Hill of Beath.

Following extensive consultations with elected members, the Hill of Beath Community Council, and Hill of Beath Primary School, the committee has agreed to reallocate £50,000, originally assigned for the creation of a car park, to the development of a pedestrian refuge island and footway improvements on the B981. This project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians, promoting active travel within the community.

The initial allocation for the car park project was reviewed and, after feedback from the local community, it was determined that the project would not progress. In response, further consultations identified the need for improved pedestrian infrastructure as a priority for the Hill of Beath community.

Councillor Alex Campbell, Cowdenbeath Area Committee Convenor said: "We are happy to approve this change, showing our commitment to listening to the community. The new pedestrian infrastructure will make Hill of Beath safer and more accessible for everyone."

The new project includes:

  • Widening the footpath on the north side.
  • Adding a pedestrian crossing island with tactile paving and bollards.
  • Building a new footpath on the south side with crossing points.
  • Removing existing road narrowing features and improving the road surface.
  • Adding new road markings for better visibility.

The total cost of the new works is estimated at £61,000, with additional support from the Roads & Transportation Services.
