Levenmouth’s active travel network is continuing to take shape over the coming months with two key phases about to begin.
Work on the creation of segregated cycle paths along Methilhaven Road is due to start on Saturday, October 11, while work to extend the cycle and pedestrian route on Leven Promenade as far as the caravan park is also set to get underway on Monday, October 20.
Both schemes are part of the wider Levenmouth Connectivity Project, which aims to connect communities across the area with a walking, wheeling and cycling network which is accessible to all.
Work will include the signalisation of the Methilhaven Road/Sea Road Roundabout, carriageway resurfacing and active travel improvements along Methilhaven Road between Sea Road and Den Walk. This work, which will be carried out by Hillhouse Group on behalf of Fife Council, will run through in phases until Spring 2026.
Works will commence at the Methilhaven Road/Sea Road roundabout, with a road closure in place on the B932 between the junction of Grieve Street and the roundabout.
A diversion will be put in place (see below), and members of the public should note that all local businesses will remain open as usual.
Any inconvenience caused by these planned works is regretted but will be kept to a minimum, and we’ve scheduled the work to coincide with the October school holidays for this reason.
A site office will be set up adjacent to Laburnum Road, and anyone with any questions or concerns should get in contact.
As for the Leven Promenade scheme, contractors Gilmartin will be extending the segregated cycle path from School Lane as far as the caravan park in phases – with that programme due to be completed early in 2026.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation to ensure the safety of the workforce, and relevant signage will be in place as the work progresses.
