Fife Council, in partnership with Campion Homes, is set to deliver 44 new council houses at Fraser Avenue in Inverkeithing.
It's the final phase of The Fraser Avenue Regeneration project, a partnership between Fife Council, the Fife Housing Association Alliance and the Scottish Government and will see the building of much-needed council houses.
The development of 44 homes will be a mix of four-in-a-block flats, amenity and wheelchair accessible bungalows and a variety of two storey family homes and three storey townhouses. In keeping with the wider regeneration plans, it will be a mixed development of 31 social rent homes and 13 mid-market rentals.
Funding for the £10.4m development has come from the Scottish Government Affordable Housing Grant and Fife Council's Housing Revenue Account capital budget.
Built to the highest standard, these energy efficient new houses will provide modern living accommodation for tenants. Work will begin this month with construction expected to take two years to complete.
Fife Council's housing spokesperson Cllr Judy Hamilton visited the site recently and welcomed progress. She said: “This marks the final phase of an ambitious and inspiring regeneration programme that has transformed Inverkeithing over the past 11 years - not just physically, but socially and culturally, through a community-led approach.
"From the very beginning, the local community has played a central role - shaping the masterplan more than a decade ago, helping to select Kingdom Housing Association to deliver the housing element, and standing together as the first trucks arrived to begin the demolition of the old Fraser Avenue flats.
"As the rebuilding progressed, local people contributed to the design and were even employed in the construction process. New community groups and facilities have emerged, and the community has remained at the heart of every step.
"This final phase of housing-led development is a testament to the dedication of all partners involved, and to the power of collaboration in breathing new life into this area. I look forward to visiting the site again, reconnecting with the community, and to see the transformation enter the final phase.”
As well as providing more housing, the Affordable Housing Programme creates jobs and apprenticeships, supporting the construction industry and the Fife economy.
