Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre has been officially opened today by Cllr Linda Erskine, Fife Council Spokesperson for Communities, marking a proud moment for the town and the completion of a major refurbishment project that has transformed the venue into a modern, welcoming space for everyone.
The centre, which reopened to the public on 29 September, now offers state-of-the-art facilities including an expanded gym, modernised swimming pool, improved changing areas, sauna and steam room, and a repurposed synthetic turf pitch.
The official opening event celebrated the strong partnership between Fife Council, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust (FSLT), and OnFife, which operates the new integrated library service within the centre. Together, these organisations have created a unique hub that brings leisure, learning, and early years services under one roof.
Cllr Linda Erskine, Spokesperson for Communities, said:"This is a fantastic day for Cowdenbeath. The new-look leisure centre is more than just a building – it’s a space where people can come together to stay active, learn, and connect. This investment shows our commitment to supporting healthier, happier communities, and is a great example of partnership working for the benefit of local people. It's great to see the centre buzzing with life once again.
Emma Walker, Chief Executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the refurbished Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre officially opened alongside our partners. Since reopening in September, we’ve seen just how much this venue means to the community, and the official opening highlights the scale of what’s been achieved. The upgraded gym, modernised pool area and refreshed facilities offer an improved experience for users, and with the library and early years services now part of the building, it truly is a vibrant community hub, offering something for everyone.”
Heather Stuart, Chief Executive of OnFife, said: "Moving the library into the centre is proving just how successful collaborative working can be, with the partnership with Fife Sports and Leisure Trust and Fife Council creating new opportunities and connections. We're delighted to already be seeing an increase in membership, we're working with the nursery and the beautiful new library is buzzing with people of all ages using the bright colorful space for many different purposes, from students studying to a Japanese language group."
The refurbishment was delivered on time and within budget, reinforcing Fife Council’s commitment to investing in facilities that promote wellbeing and community engagement.
