A successful programme helping people across South and West Fife stay active and connected is set to continue for another year. This is thanks to a £45,053 investment from the area’s anti-poverty budget.
The Community Wellbeing Project, run by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust (FSLT), has already delivered over 3,000 attendances at free fitness sessions since it launched in 2024. Now, with additional funding, the project will run until 2027; bringing more opportunities for local people.
The project was designed to remove barriers to exercise, especially for older adults and those on low incomes. The programme brings activities directly into communities, using local venues to host classes. Sessions are free and often followed by a cuppa and a chat - helping reduce isolation and build new friendships.
Councillor David Barratt, Convener of the South and West Fife Area Committee, said: “This project is a brilliant example of how we can tackle poverty and poor health at the same time. By making fitness fun, free and local, we’re helping people stay connected and live healthier lives.
“I’m delighted we’re extending this support for another year.”
The programme has been praised by NHS Fife as a model of good practice and is open to everyone, removing any stigma.
