During National Volunteers Week, Dunfermline took the opportunity to celebrate volunteers across the City.
On Wednesday, 4 June 2025, we held our annual volunteer celebration at the Abbeyview Community Hub. We celebrated the volunteers from Fife Council’s Community Learning and Development (CLD) Team, as well as our valued partners.
It was a special evening learning about volunteering projects in Dunfermline. Fife Council’s CLD Team hosted the event, with a speech from Neil Lyndon from the Men’s Shed and video presentations on Baldridgeburn Community Garden, Pantry and Garden Kitchen.
Learning about the countless hours, unwavering commitment, and dedication given to our communities is both humbling and inspiring. It speaks volumes about the strength of our City and the bright future we’re building together.
CLD’s volunteer Alan Halkett gained the Special Recognition Award for his volunteering efforts at Baldridgeburn Garden and Pantry. Alan is well known in the area, as he volunteers in other projects throughout the City and this award is very well deserved.
The event welcomed over 60 people. Celebrating with the volunteers were local councillors and staff from, Fife College and a variety of teams throughout Fife Council. To mark the occasion, Area Convener, Cllr James Calder presented volunteers with a certificate and gift bag.
He said: "It's a privilege to be able to present awards to a number of community groups and Fife Council volunteers around Dunfermline at this year's Volunteer celebration event.
"From food growing groups, local action groups, some of our local religious organisations and much more, they all contribute to the wellbeing of many in our city. I would like to thank each and every one of them for all that they do."
The event concluded with speeches from Tricia Ryan, Community Development Support Manager and Cllr Calder, followed with a charcuterie style buffet.
