It’s goodbye to 'A new South West Fife secondary school, which will relocate the current Inverkeithing High School' and hello to 'Caledonia High School', as councillors agree new name.
Members of the South & West Fife Area Committee today agreed the new, relocated school should be called Caledonia High School, following a widespread consultation.
The views of pupils, parents, grandparents, staff, local residents, and the wider community, were all presented to councillors today with a clear leader emerging across all groups of consultees.
Convenor of South & West Fife Area Committee, Cllr. David Barratt commented on the results of the consultation, saying: “ Although we councillors had the final task of agreeing the name, it was quite clear which of the suggested names was the overall favourite. Caledonia High School is a perfect choice for the new school building for so many reasons.
“The naming of a school is a very important and highly emotive subject and there were a number of great options put forward during the consultation. We were adamant that we wanted the whole community to get behind the naming of the new building and it was really important to us to make sure we heard the views of as many people as possible. In the end the choice was easy, as there was a clear favourite. So, I’m really pleased to introduce you to Caledonia High School."
Meanwhile, work on the £88m school, being built on the former Rosyth Fleet Grounds, is progressing well. A topping out ceremony, commemorating the school building reaching its highest point, took place last month. Once finished the school will have capacity to accommodate over 1700 pupils, over three floors, with an open see and be seen approach throughout the school, similar to our other new schools.
Fife Council is working in partnership with The Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust and the project is procured and managed for Fife Council by hub East Central Scotland.
Caledonia High School will open its doors to pupils in August 2026.
