National Cycle Route 766, along Blackwood Road, currently uses a narrow footway. It runs from the roundabout just north of Thornton, to the Bankhead Depot in Glenrothes. The footway will now be widened, giving pedestrians and cyclists more space to pass each other.
The upgraded cycle track, approximately 1.5 km, will also be extended to the Eastfield Industrial Estate. It's popular with commuters cycling between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.
The cost of the works is £350,000 and will be ongoing in 2021.
