Privacy notice
This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.
Fife Council uses the personal information you provide in connection with your role on a community council in order to maintain an up-to-date database of community council contacts and to support the operation of community councils across Fife. We have statutory functions to assist community councils under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.
What information we collect and why
The personal information we gather and use includes your name and contact details as a community councillor.
These details are used to:
- confirm your eligibility to serve on a community council
- communicate with you directly in your role
- support the administration of the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils in Fife
Community councils use generic email addresses for public contact. As a result, we do not publish personal contact information for individual community councillors.
Where we get your information
We receive information about you from:
- the Returning officer at community council elections
- the community council itself
If we did not request and use this information, we would be unable to carry out our statutory functions or provide appropriate support to community councils.
How long we keep your information
The Council will not keep your information for longer than necessary. In some cases, the law sets the minimum length of time information must be retained.
The Council’s retention schedule, which outlines how long different types of information are held, is available on our Privacy Policy page.
Further information
More details about how your information is used and why can be found in our Privacy Policy.
