Lock-ups
Lock-ups are fixed existing structures, usually made from concrete panels, bricks, or wood. They are on designated sites. To rent a lock-up, it costs:
- £21.80 per fortnight if you're a council tenant
- £26.16 per fortnight if you're a non-council tenant (VAT included)
Garage sites
A garage site is a plot of land on a designated site, owned by the council. You can lease the land from us for around £59 to £82 per year. You can then place your own timber garage on your allocated plot, as long as it meets our specification requirements.
If you're leasing a garage plot, you need to get planning permission before installing it. You can do this via the e-planning portal - Getting Started on ePlanning Scotland
Applicants will be expected to provide 'to scale' professional drawings as part of the planning application. This will mean a small additional cost. The specification drawing provided at sign up can also be submitted as part of the application.
Planning Aid Scotland offer free, impartial planning advice via their website.
More information is available from the following links:
If your intended garage is over 30 sqm, which is roughly the size of a large double garage, it will also require a building warrant.
If you decide you no longer wish to rent the garage site, you will need to remove the garage and return the land to us in the condition you received it. If you do not, you will be re-charged the cost of this.
Things to consider
- Applications will not be considered for a lock-up or garage site if you have any outstanding accounts with us (for example rent, council tax etc)
- Applications will not be considered if you are under sixteen years of age
- You are not permitted to carry out any business or trade of any description in or from the lock-up or garage site
- You are not permitted to store petrol, oil or any other flammable or explosive material in or around the lock-up or garage site
For anyone looking for information on lock-ups or garages, please scroll on the map to find locations. The Lock-ups and Garages Map below currently has a technical fault within the system. This means the status of lock-ups shown may not be a true reflection of availability.
You can use the link to apply for a lock-up at the bottom of the page to fill in an application, and someone from Fife Council will contact you to discuss this.
