How and when you'll get paid

We aim to process your application within 5 working days of receiving it. You will receive payment for the school clothing grant after this.

The school clothing grant is £130.00 per child for primary school pupils and £160.00 per child for high school pupils.

If you are entitled to a school clothing grant, a payment will be made direct into your bank account. If you are entitled to free school meals, we will notify your child’s school.

During school holidays - October 2025

If your child receives free school meals based on benefit entitlement, you will get a payment of £26.00 (£2.60 per day) into your bank account on Wednesday, 8 October. There's no need to apply separately.

If they are in Primary 6 or 7 or S1 to S3 and receiving free school meals based on Scottish Child Payment, you will not receive this payment.
