Levenmouth Academy

Levenmouth Academy

The new Levenmouth Academy is a replacement for, and combines, the current Buckhaven and Kirkland High Schools and is part of the Building Fife’s Future Programme. The facility is part of a wider Campus development which will include a new College building and is being procured through HUB East Central Scotland Ltd with Project Management, Cost Control and Clerk of Works Services provided by Property Services.

The School is designed to accommodate 1800 Secondary pupils provided over three levels along with Community use provision. The design comprises a full height Street that runs the entire length of the building with teaching wings extending out to the North and South. The Street contains the dining and other vital social areas. There is a separate Assembly/Performance Hall, a four court Sports Hall, two separate Gymnasiums, a Fitness Suite and a Dance Studio. The Learning Resource Centre is located on the First Floor within easy reach from all levels. This approach delivers a school that takes advantage of natural light, ventilation and passive supervision opportunities. Externally sports provision will include five grass Sports Pitches, a Running Track, an All Weather Sports Pitch along with field sports areas such as Javelin, Shot Put and Long Jump.

The main building was complete in July 2016 and occupied at the start of the new term in August 2016. Thereafter, demolition of the existing Buckhaven building took place, allowing the construction of the all weather pitch, two grass pitches and the running track.
