The Fife Environment Trust (FET) receives Scottish Landfill Communities Fund (SLCF) money from landfill operators and distribute this to eligible projects.
FET is managed by an independent Board of Directors which includes the council as the main contributor to the fund.

Fife Environment Trust currently offers two levels of funding support to eligible organisations and projects:
- small grants scheme
- large grants scheme
Small grants scheme
You can apply for up to 90% of your project costs, up to no more than £10,000. For higher value projects, there is a cap on the maximum award request of £10,000.
Applications to the small grants scheme can be made at any time as there are no submission deadlines.
Large grants scheme
You can apply for between £10,000 and £50,000, up to 75% of your total eligible costs. Submission deadlines for applications to the large grants scheme are twice a year, at the end of March and the end of September.
Applications submitted in March are considered in May. Applications submitted in September are considered in November.
Who can apply
Any organisation or group which is properly constituted can apply. These include:
- community groups
- voluntary organisations
- parish councils
- charities
- community interest companies
Who cannot apply
FET will not fund the following items:
- feasibility studies
- commercial projects
- maintenance costs for maintenance activities planned to commence upon completion of the project
- overall running (revenue) costs
- any works that an organisation is legally required to undertake
Criteria
All projects must be able to demonstrate the benefit to the public. Each project must be able to meet at least one of the following objects:
- object A – reclamation, remediation, restoration or any other operation intended to facilitate economic, social or environmental use on land with restricted use due to a previous activity
- object B – community waste prevention, recycling and reuse projects
- object C – provision, improvement, or maintenance of a public park or other public amenity
- object D – conservation or promotion of biological diversity through the provision, conservation, restoration and/or enhancement of a natural habitat of Scotland or the maintenance of recovery of a species in its natural Scottish habitat
- object E – maintenance, repair of restoration of historic structures or sites of religious worship, historic, archaeological or architectural interest open to the public in Scotland, including landscape context
All projects must take place within 10 miles of a landfill site of transfer station.

Your application will go through an initial assessment to check that the project is eligible. It will be assessed on:
- public benefit
- social/economic/environmental benefit
- contribution to climate change
- innovation and community consultation in support of the project
