Crown Estate

Who can apply

Coastal communities can benefit from the net revenue generated by the Scottish Crown Estate marine assets. Yearly allocations are distributed in arrears following the finalisation of the annual accounts for the Scottish Crown Estate.

Who cannot apply

You cannot apply for funding for:

  • core staffing costs, unless they are for short-term, test of change/project roles
  • core running costs
  • legal costs/fees

We cannot fund small contributions to major projects. You should identify a smaller stand-alone component of a larger project that meets the priorities of this fund.

Where a project is rejected for funding in one round, a future submission will not be considered unless the project is substantially different.

Eligible work

Projects must:

  • take place within 5 miles of Fife’s coastline
  • be located within the 4 priority areas of Fife - North East Fife, Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy or South and West Fife

Projects must meet at least one Crown Estate priority. The Crown Estate priorities are:

  • environmental enhancement
  • emissions reduction/removal of waste
  • jobs
  • tourism
  • skills development
  • diversification projects
  • investment for a community purpose
  • climate change adaptation

Projects seeking funding should also focus on community priorities and the themes of the Climate Fife Action Plan:

  • innovation and coordination
  • energy efficiency
  • low carbon energy
  • move, store and transform energy
  • sustainable travel
  • resource efficiency
  • carbon sequestration
  • adaptation

Criteria

It is expected that projects should be in a position to start within the financial year when funds are awarded.

Project end dates will not normally go beyond the next financial year.

Applicants can have no more than 3 awards in a 5-year period.

How and when to apply

The fund opens for applications at the end of August each year and decisions are made in October/November.

Application forms are available by emailing community.investment@fife.gov.uk

Successful applicants are only advised of an intention to support the project. Funding will not be received until late December.

Successful applicants will be required to sign a Service Level Agreement and provide progress updates and reports to assess the benefits of the project.
