You can ask for a larger or additional bin if your household produces more waste than your current bins can hold.
Who can apply
Eligibility depends on the type of bin you need.
General waste and recycling bins
You can apply if you:
- you have 2 or more children under 3 using nappies
- someone in your household has a medical condition that creates extra waste
- your household has a high number of permanent residents
Your household must also meet a minimum size depending on your bin service:
- four bin service: 5 or more people
- rural bin service: 6 or more people
- general waste bin only (blue bin): 7 or more people
- sack collection: 7 or more people
Food and garden waste
You can get an additional brown bin if:
- you regularly produce more food and garden waste than your bin can hold
- you are unable to transport waste to a Recycling Centre due to medical conditions
- home composting is not an option for your property
Return your bins
You should return a bin if you no longer need the extra capacity.
For example:
- your household size has reduced
- nappies are no longer used
- a temporary medical need has ended
