Project Details
The Glenwood Centre was demolished in July 2023, after a long process that began with the 2017 Golden Glenrothes Charette, outlining the community’s vision for regeneration. We started buying back the site’s properties and applied for a Compulsory Purchase Order. Unfortunately, the whole process was delayed by the pandemic. All occupants had left by February 2023.
The cleared site was grassed over while we, along with Kingdom Housing Association and Sinclair Watt Architects, worked on redevelopment plans. These include four blocks of flats, aimed at older residents. Kingdom’s properties will be for those aged 55+ and our Retirement Housing properties will be for those aged 60+.
Due to the site’s small size, flats are more economically viable than houses or bungalows. A Community Hub will also be built, with part reserved as a lounge for Retirement Housing tenants and the rest for public use.
Community consultations took place in late 2023 and early 2024. Feedback was used to create a Q&A featured in the latest Let's talk about Macedonia area newsletter. We are developing a joint Housing and Greenspace Management Plan with Kingdom Housing to support all tenants. This will go to the Glenrothes Area Committee for approval.
