St Leonards Primary School
- Primary School
St Leonard's Primary School was built in 1902. It is a co-educational, non-denominational school located on the south-east side of Dunfermline close to Dunfermline High School. The catchment area lies on both sides of St Leonard s Street and stretches out on Nethertown Broad Street and along to the new housing developments on the Limekilns Road. Due to the age of the building the design features very pleasing architectural features and is a listed building.
The main school building houses seven classrooms, small games/PE hall, general purpose room and office accommodation. A new purpose built nursery and modular dining hall was created in 2000/2001. A controlled entry system operates on the main entry doors to school and nursery. A expansive area provides playground space and is used for outdoor games in summer months.
Our aim is to create a positive ethos for learning which is responsive to pupils , parents and staff needs and offers a safe, happy, welcoming, caring and stimulating environment in which to work, learn and play. We endeavour to work in partnership to provide the highest possible standard of education for all pupils.
The Expressive Arts curriculum is enhanced by regular visits from Drama, Music, PE and Art specialists. Five pupils in P6 and P7 are being taught to play piano and three pupils in P6 and P7 are being taught to play guitar. We have 0.7 Learning Support time delivered by one member of staff.
Our Parents Association is very active and organises many successful social and fundraising events throughout the school session. The School Board has been established since 1988 and has provided consistent support to the school during that time. Our Pupil Council meets regularly to discuss concerns and issues raised by the pupils.
A residential programme at Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre is offered to P7 pupils. Extra curricular activities include football, netball, badminton, early touches and basic moves. We make effective use of the Local environment to support a wide curriculum.
We are pleased to meet with parents who wish to discuss any aspect of our school.
