Message for Parents/Carers

Dear Parent

Welcome to Saline Primary, a happy school where the whole team work together for the benefit of all.

Saline Primary School serves the villages of Saline and Steelend plus the surrounding rural areas. Our school population is very settled with few changes to the roll throughout the session. We presently have 6 primary classes and full day nursery provision for both 3- and 4-year-old children.

Pupils transfer at P.7 stage to Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline with a few pupils opting to attend St. Columba’s High School and Dollar Academy.

Strong links and positive partnership with parents are valued and encouraged via active participation e.g. Parent Council plus a variety of in - school opportunities. Pupil participation and positive citizenship is promoted via our Pupil Council, Play Monitors, Peer Mediators, House System, Eco Committee, inter-school activities – Rotary Quiz, Maths Challenge plus a wide range of school-based clubs.

Parent communication/involvement is welcomed and you are encouraged to share any information that will support us, so that we, as a team, can ensure that your child achieves his or her full potential.

Saline Primary is the only school in Saline and serves the rural villages of Saline and Steelend plus the surrounding farming fraternity. Most pupils are within walking distance of the school with the outlying children arriving by minibus/local service bus.

The first phase of Saline Primary School was built in 1875. These two storied main building houses 4 classrooms, gym hall, school reference and lending library/storage/first aid area, as well as the staff room and staff toilet, plus a reading resource room and Head Teacher office.

The separate "new" two storied building accommodates 3 classrooms, the dining room, a cloakroom, storage cupboards and the school office. Building provision has been enhanced by joining the two main buildings, completed in July 2008. The Nursery is housed in a separate building within our grounds. There are strong links between the nursery and primary 1 class.

Tarmac play areas surround the school. We have recently made improvements to our Nursery Garden, with an addition of a new climbing frame and slide, which the children love. There is no specific school car parking provision but the limited community car park and bus turning provision is accessible via a lane which adjoins the rear of the playground.
