Lawhead Primary opened in 1974 and is situated on the periphery of St Andrews close to the western section of the Ladebraes Walk. It is a fairly modern open plan building and has a nursery within the building.
The housing area around has seen a lot of growth over the last 3-5 years. The school roll is currently sitting around 180, but has a far larger capacity. The nursery is currently staffed for 30 children in the morning and 20 in the afternoon.
Within the main school there are at present, eight open teaching areas. Each teaching area has a small sideroom adjacent where the class can meet together and shut the door. We have a large multipurpose hall which is used extensively throughout the week for p.e., drama, music, assemblies, school productions, having lunch and after school clubs. The nursery uses two large areas within the school and has its own enclosed outdoor play area.
The school has large expansive grounds which is mainly grass. There is also some paved and tarmac areas for the children to play. We are in the process of having two trim trails put into the school grounds for the children to use.
We have seven school aims which all aim to ensure that the needs of individuals are met.
We work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure that there is a team approach to meeting needs.
We have an active and supportive School Council and PTA who organise a number of fundraising and social activities throughout the year.
More information can be found on the school website.
