We are passionate about getting it right for every child and we do this through ensuring a positive, caring and inclusive ethos across the school. We want everyone who comes to our school to feel this in how we behave and in our relationships with others. Our values - Our school values were created with all stake holders and we regularly review them with our pupils and staff.  We believe that respect, kindness, perseverance and inclusiveness are at the core of all that we want to achieve.  We want everyone to respect each other, themselves, our properties and the world around us.  We want every one that works with us to try their best and have a growth mindset to help us keep trying.  We believe that kindness works both ways in that by being kind we have a universal force for good and that in turn  we are supporting our own mental health and the mental and physical health of others. We believe that we should all value inclusiveness. We help others and aim to make sure that everyone gets what they need to be happy and to learn.

Our aims - In 2024 we chose to align our aims with the GIRFEC wellbeing principles of ensuring that our children are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and that they are in an inclusive environment.

At Kingsbarns school, we believe that a strong, respectful partnership between home and school is essential to every child’s success. We are committed to working closely with parents and carers to create a warm, inclusive community where we all follow our school values of Kindness, Respect, Inclusiveness and Perseverance.

We endeavour to communicate clearly throughout weekly newsletters/ diary and use of communication apps. We work closely with our parent council to ensure there is respectful dialogue in meetings and where parents can make contributions to discussions about their school.  We consult on policies and activities throughout the year. All parents and carers are invited to join our parent council meetings or help at events.  There are opportunities to attend events each session. We provide end of term SWAYS that round up successes and learning across the school.  We also provide weekly homework and reading tasks that reflect some of our learning in class.

We welcome parents to volunteer in our school but it may be necessary to process a PVG disclosure check for this with some volunteering forms.  We also strongly encourage parents to come to speak if relevant to our learning contexts and about the world of work and the skills required for their jobs.

Kingsbarns Primary was built in 1822 which makes it the oldest school in Fife Still in Use.  The building sits on the Main Street in Kingsbarns.  There is a one main building which is one storey and contains two classrooms, a kitchen serving area, school office, storage and toilets.  Across a tarmac play area at the front of the school there is a separate building which has a staff room and small hall area.

To the rear of the school there is a small tarmac area with some playground equipment and a small walled grassy area that can also be used.  The school rear entrance leads out into the village green which is used for sports, sports days, fairs, outdoor learning and breaks.

We use the village hall for PE / drama if indoor space is required.  We also use it for whole school celebrations, performances or larger assemblies.  The village Church is traditionally used for a leaver service at the end of the school year and sometimes for other events.

We use the local forest areas, the beach and Cambo estate for outdoor learning, as well as the school grounds and village green.  Lunches are brought to the school from St Andrews and both the kitchen area, and the classroom are used for eating lunch.

School Uniform

Kingsbarns Primary School has a uniform policy of

• white or green polo shirts or blouse/ shirt  with green school sweatshirt
• black or grey trousers/ skirts or shorts are preferred
• school jumpers, sweatshirts and polo shirts with the logo are available to order
• we offer a reversible waterproof/fleece jacket in green which is available to order also
• dark trainers for school as we promote daily exercise
• dark school shoes are also acceptable

As a school we fully endorse supporting parents with the cost of the school day and do not insist on jumpers/ sweatshirts with logos. We do prefer pupils to wear the correct green colour which is available in most supermarkets at a low cost.

Parents also organise pre loved uniforms which can be available at any time.

Pupils have two hours of PE each week, both indoors and outdoors.  In most cases, school uniform will suffice for PE with correct footwear. Children are able to wear dark joggers/ leggings/ shorts for PE and by wearing these to school this will avoid spending time changing clothes.

Most classes visit the forest or green/Cambo Estate and we encourage wellies/ suitable coat and possible change of clothes on these days.  The school has some spare waterproofs and wellies if needed. We would encourage any parent to get in touch with us if they need help sourcing any of the above.
