Greyfriars RC Primary School serves a wide catchment area stretching east from St Andrews along the East Neuk and west to the Tay Bridge. The school was established in 1959 but not fully funded until taken over by the County Council in 1969. At this time it was relocated to the old Burgh School and in August 2007 moved to a newly refurbished accommodation at Kilrymont Road.
A Roman Catholic school, Christian values and personal search are at the heart of our school ethos. We strive to share a culture of respect in a climate of mutual support and by valuing different beliefs and cultures. Prayer and reflection are important in our daily lives.
Greyfriars is noted for the diversity of its school population. As well as drawing from a wide catchment, over the years it has attracted many children from other countries. As a result the school community benefits from a rich cultural diversity as well as a good social and religious mix.
There are currently 7 classrooms on 2 storeys. There is a dedicated IT suite and library as well as additional learning spaces. Lunches are served in the school hall behind which there is a separate gym.
The school roll has remained stable in recent years, currently 204.
The present Headteacher was appointed in July 2011. 7 class teachers are currently supported by 1 school support assistant and 2 pupil support assistants. A specialist teacher of Science teaches all classes and a Support for Learning teacher is shared with 1 other school.
The school is well supported by a Parent Council which has 2 representatives from each primary stage. As well as being in regular consultation about school policy and programmes, the Council is proactive in organising social and fund-raising events.
In school, the children play a part in the life of the school through class councils which, in turn, report to the Pupil Council. We also have an Eco Committee who raise awareness of Green issues in school and in September 2011 we recieved our second Green Flag award.
