Denend Primary School has two buildings.  It is a co-educational non-denominational school and serves the areas of Dundonald, Bowhill and Auchterderran in Cardenden. It is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac near the station and has farmland on its western boundary.

The School main building, which was built in 1910 has twelve classrooms including a  music /drama room,  resources rooms and an ICT suite.  Our P7 pupils are currently developing a school website.  The infant building was built in the 1950’s. Two rooms house our P1 and P1/2 classes and the remaining two rooms have been recently refurbished to house our Nursery for 3-5 year olda and our Under 3s provision. The infant building  has a dining hall which is also used for P.E. activities. There are two toilet blocks - one for infant pupils and one for nursery children.

Both buildings have security systems on the external doors and full disabled access.

There is also a CCTV security system in operation which covers the entire school area.

Our aim is to provide an appropriate curriculum for all our pupils in a safe and secure environment. We try to equip them for life long learning in an ever changing society and we try to instil values of respect, responsibility and independence.

We have a Learning Support Teacher for 3 days per week.  Our P6 and P7 pupils receive a weekly French lesson.  Selected  P6 and P7 receive brass and chanter instruction.

We have an annual visit to the Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre for our P7 pupils. Our Pupil Council meets regularly to discuss concerns and issues raised by the pupils.

I operate an open door policy and parents are welcome to visit the School at any time. Parents visit regularly for whole school ‘Soft Start" which is normally the last Friday in every month.

Relationships with parents are excellent and there are good community links which are being developed further.  There is an active Parent Council and new members would be warmly welcomed. Our parents are very supportive of school activities.
