At Aberhill Primary, we work with care and intention to create an ethos where every child feels safe, respected and included. These values shape our relationships, our learning environment, and the way we support children to grow confidently as individuals.

We take pride in sharing children’s learning and celebrating their successes, both within school and with our wider community. Building positive connections beyond our school gates helps strengthen our sense of belonging and raises the profile of our school as a nurturing, community minded place to learn.

Our team works together to raise attainment while ensuring that every child benefits from a rich, varied, and engaging learning experience. We aim to make learning meaningful, connecting it to the wider world so that children understand, enjoy, and see purpose in what they do.

Children are encouraged to reflect on their progress and celebrate their achievements through the lens of the four capacities, helping them develop confidence and a sense of ownership over their learning.

As a whole school, we work closely with partners to support attainment, promote achievement, ensure inclusion, and continue to improve our school and local environment. Aberhill Primary has a long and proud history within our community. The school first opened in 1912, and for many years, until the 1960s, it served as both a Primary and Secondary school. Its distinctive design, with four corridor wings leading from a central circular hall, gives the building a unique character that families and visitors always comment on. Much of the original woodwork has been beautifully restored, keeping the charm and heritage of the school alive.

Today, Aberhill Primary has eleven classes, each based in traditional classrooms that offer a calm and familiar learning environment. We also have a large team teaching space, now used as our Learning Support and Pupil Support Assistant Base, where children can receive nurturing, tailored support as needed. This supports our children’s wellbeing, creativity and learning.

Our dining area, “Abbie’s Bistro,” blends modern design with the school’s original architecture and provides nutritious meals each day. It also offers an additional space for PE, games, and whole school events, helping us bring our school community together.

We are especially proud of our large outdoor garden, which has been lovingly developed by the children as part of our Eco School work. Pupils helped regenerate the space, paint outdoor planters, and create areas for growing and exploring. Over recent years we have continued to improve our school grounds by resurfacing part of the playground, adding painted playground games, replacing goalposts, and installing a bicycle shelter. These changes help create a fun, active, and nurturing environment where children feel able to play, learn, and thrive.
