Aberhill Primary School
- Primary School
Our school was opened in 1912 and until the 1960s was a combined Primary and Secondary School.
The design of the school is distinctive having four corridor wings radiating from a central circular hall. The extensive woodwork was restored to its original state during the 80’s.
Presently there are fourteen classes in the school. The classrooms are traditional in design with the exception of a large team-teaching area which is presently used by the youngest classes. In addition to the classrooms we have a main hall, gym hall, an I.C.T. suite, school library and a Learning Support Base.
In October 1994 a large kitchen/dining hall extension was opened. The design is most impressive being modern in concept yet blending in with the original architecture of the school. “Abbie’s Bistro” provides us with excellent meals and the facility of an additional hall for P.E., games, functions etc.
Last Session (10 / 11) we have upgraded our outdoor garden. The children as part of an Eco project have regenerated the garden and painted the outdoor pots for planting out. This helped us to achieve our Second Green Flag.
Within the school we are continuing initiatives to secure Phase III of the Health Promoting School Award, are actively continuing our work for Eco Schools and have embarked on The Rights Respecting School's first award through Unicef in respect of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
We are striving to raise attainment, promote and celebrate all achievements of our children.
Pupil Voice is very important and we have children representing all of these initiatives as well as an active Pupil Council.
