Valleyfield Wood is a woodland park offering walks through a historic landscape. The wood follows the winding Bluther Burn and is rich in wildlife, featuring seasonal displays of snowdrops and bluebells.
Park History
Today’s park sits on the grounds of the former Valleyfield Estate, designed in the early 1800s by the renowned landscape gardener Humphry Repton - his only Scottish commission. Visitors can still spot remnants of this grand past, including the walled garden, ornamental pond, and beech avenues. The site also has a fascinating link to Scotland’s famous plant hunter, David Douglas, who worked here as a gardener between 1817 and 1820 before embarking on global expeditions that introduced species such as the Douglas fir to Britain.
