About Silver Sands & Hawkcraig Point
Area: 96 acres / 39 hectares
The beach here is one of the most popular in Fife, with lifeguards present during the summer months. The headland at Hawkcraig Point offers panoramic views of the Firth of Forth. There is a café and public toilets available.
Car parking:
- 2025 (April–October): £4 per day
- 2026: Changes to parking management are planned
Park History
During World War One, a naval base called HMS Tarlair was established at Hawkcraig Point. It served as a research base for underwater microphones, which were a forerunner to sonar technology. The purpose of the base was to detect German submarines in the Firth of Forth.
