About Ravenscraig Park
Area: 78 acres / 31 hectares
Ravenscraig Park is situated on the Firth of Forth, offering great views along the coast and across to the Lothians. The park features woodland and coastal walks. Just outside the park are Ravenscraig Castle, Pathhead Sands, and Dysart Harbour.
Park History
In 1460, King James II acquired the land of Ravenscraig Castle. It was the first Scottish castle to be built specifically for defence by artillery. Later, it became a residence for Queen Mary of Guelders. After Queen Mary's death, the castle was granted d to the Sinclair family in part exchange for land in the Orkney Islands. The Sinclairs built a dovecot in the park in the 1600s.
The layout of the park is linked to building of Dysart House, a drive from the east entrance was built in 1866. The park was originally called the Three Trees Park in memory of the Sinclair brothers.
