All schools and early learning centres are closed. We have set up 29 Children's Activity Centres to provide free childcare for some key workers.
Executive Director of Education and Children's Services Carrie Lindsay said: “This is not a decision that was taken lightly, and we understand the challenges this poses for many parents and carers but the well-being of all those in our communities is a priority.
“Our schools and learning centres have been planning for this for some time and we have been working closely with our headteachers to make sure that some form of learning can continue in these circumstances.
“Schools have access to a wide range of online resources and children have been shown how to access these from home.
“We know that many families rely on our education facilities for more than learning. We have plans in place to try to keep this support available for our most vulnerable pupils and children of those who work in front line services."
The SQA has also announced that this year's exams will not go ahead and that they will develop an alternative certification model.
