This roadmap sets out our planned accessibility improvements for www.fife.gov.uk and associated minisites.
We identify accessibility issues through automated testing, manual testing, user feedback, accessibility audits and content reviews.
Current improvement work
We are currently working to improve the following accessibility issues on our website.
| Issue | Resolution | Priority | Target date | Progress |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PDFs and Word documents not fully accessible | We are reviewing PDF and Word documents across our website and moving information into webpages wherever possible. This helps make content easier to access using assistive technology and mobile devices. We will continue reviewing PDF's during our ongoing content improvement work. | High | Ongoing, reviewed quarterly | We are in the process of identifying what documents we have on our website. |
| Focus indicators not always visible | Some interactive elements do not clearly show when they receive keyboard focus, making them harder to use for keyboard-only users. We will update website styles to ensure focus indicators meet WCAG 2.2 standards. | High | September 2026 | Our technical team are working on improving this issue. |
| Minsites | Some of our minisites do not currently meet the same accessibility standards as our main website. We are reviewing these sites and moving them into the same accessibility testing process as our main website. | High | April 2027 | We are introducing accessibility checking into our annual minisite audits. |
| Captions missing on some pre-recorded videos | Some videos do not have captions. We will work with our communications team to ensure all new videos include captions and review existing high-priority content. | Medium | Ongoing, reviewed quarterly | We are in the process of identifying what videos we have on our website. |
| Maps | We use ArcGIS maps and Google Maps. We are aware that not all maps are accessible and we are exploring different formats to sit along side these maps. | Medium | Ongoing, reviewed quarterly | We are working with our IT team to develop more accessible formats for maps. |
| Third-party systems and content | Some accessibility issues relate to third-party systems or content we do not fully control. We will work with suppliers to improve accessibility and consider accessibility requirements when renewing our systems. Third party systems used on our website:
| Medium | Ongoing | We are developing a process to address accessibility across third party sites. |
