Fife Council has marked another major milestone in its plans to improve connectivity and active travel across Levenmouth with the new Mountfleurie Bridge being successfully lifted into position over the weekend.

The £5.8 million crossing, spanning the Levenmouth Rail Link between Kirkland and Mountfleurie, is a key part of the wider Levenmouth Connectivity Project and will be open to the public in the Spring.

Once complete, the 100-metre bridge will provide a safe, scenic, and accessible route for walking, cycling, and wheeling, linking communities, schools and services on both sides of the railway.

Fife Council Roads and Transportation Services has spearheaded the planning and project design and is delivering the bridge after securing funding via the UK Government. The Council has commissioned Network Rail and its contractor to build the structure.

Councillor Alistair Suttie, Convener of the Levenmouth Area Committee, said: “It is wonderful to see this important route re-joining our communities once again.

“It has taken a lot of hard work by many folk to bring this about.

“This crossing between Methil and Leven will restore a path which has existed for a long time and has been sorely missed during the development phase of Levenmouth Rail Link.

“Now, in it’s new form, it will give access to even more of our community.

“This is an important step in its delivery and I can’t wait to see it being open and fully accessible to all.”

The installation marks the culmination of months of preparation and engineering work.

Over the coming weeks, contractors will complete finishing works, including decking, safety features, and landscaping, ahead of the official opening in 2026.

“Whilst the works are still to be completed this is a significant milestone and provides a key link for communities over the new rail line.

“It will afford access to the new active travel routes and nature network and the new rail stations at Leven and Cameron Bridge.

“This marks another major step forward in the programme to help transform and better connect the Levenmouth area.”
