Discovering Nature in Fife Week is from Monday, 17 August 2026 to Sunday, 23 August 2026.

We are in a nature emergency, this means we are losing species and habitats faster than they can recover or adapt.

We would like to encourage people across Fife to learn more about local wildlife.

By recording what you see, you can help improve understanding of how nature is doing across Fife and support local biodiversity.

Ways to get involved

There are several ways to take part during Discovering Nature in Fife Week.

Visit your garden or a local greenspace and see what wildlife you can spot.

Record your findings

The quickest and easiest way to record your findings is through iRecord. It's free to use and lets you submit wildlife sightings, including photos, from your computer, tablet or phone.

You can record your sightings wherever you are, whether you're exploring outdoors or spotting wildlife in your garden.

If you're new to iRecord, visit the iRecord help pages for guidance on creating an account and recording your sightings.

Can't access iRecord?

If you cannot use iRecord, you can send us your wildlife sightings using our wildlife recording spreadsheet.

You'll also need to complete a data use agreement form so we can process your records.

Email both documents to nature.info@fife.gov.uk.

Join an online event

Learn more about biodiversity in Fife and how to record wildlife using iRecord.

Online sessions will take place:

• Tuesday 18 August, 7pm to 8pm - Register for our Tuesday online event
• Thursday 20 August, 7pm to 8pm - Register for our Thursday online event

Visit the Discovering Nature event

Join us at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy on Sunday 23 August from 10am to 3pm.

The free family event includes:

• guided nature walks
• activities and games
• nature stalls
• information and advice on using iRecord

Discovering Nature in Fife supports Fife's Local Biodiversity Action Plan 2026 to 2045.

The plan sets out how organisations, communities and individuals can help protect and improve biodiversity across Fife.

Information recorded through iRecord helps improve understanding of local wildlife and contributes to the evidence used to support biodiversity projects and nature recovery across Fife.
