Working with children and families

Discover our latest vacancies

It's an exciting time to practice within Children and Families in Fife as we seek to deliver ‘The Promise’. Fife has invested into services and as such we know we can support social workers to have small caseloads ensuring they can work creatively and innovatively with families.

We offer permanent full-time and part-time social work opportunities and support mobile and flexible working practices.

In 2011 Fife Council Children’s Services established a process to support newly qualified and new to Fife social workers (NQSW/NTFSW). A robust induction programme was implemented alongside the introduction of a monthly forum. The programme which supports the forum runs for 15 months, with a clear expectation that all NQSW/NTF attend.

Induction

New staff will receive:

  1. a formal 2-week induction period during which time they will have no cases allocated to them, followed by a further 10 weeks of ongoing learning, observation and training for a minimum of three months.
  2. Newly qualified staff or staff new to Fife Council will receive formal supervision every 2 weeks for their first three months (a total of 6 two weekly sessions before considering reducing the frequency) as a standard within their induction programme. Thereafter the frequency can be amended as determined by the supervisor and supervisee.
  3. All Social Workers will receive formal supervision at a minimum of every 4 weeks thereafter.
  4. A range of coaching, mentoring and live in practice opportunities which support all new staff
  5. Opportunity to co-work cases and to access additional support from senior practitioners
  6. A range of training courses tailored to the individual needs of the worker
