Some stunning Scarlet Elfcup on display near our Pitcairn centre on the edge of Glenrothes. It's seen in late winter and early spring and, while widespread, it's scarce. So well done to our Access and Recreation Officer, Rich, for spotting this.

Scarlet Elfcup is usually found on fallen twigs and branches (often Hazel, Elm and Willow), and usually buried under moss. Fungi play an important role within our ecosystems, helping to recycle nutrients from dead or decaying organic matter, and providing food and shelter for different animals. Leave log piles and dead wood lying around in your garden to encourage fungi to grow and help wildlife.
