Ways to pay
 

 

 

 Direct Debit

Over 101,000 Fife residents now pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit and if you join them you could be in with a chance of winning a years free Council Tax.   

Its easy to sign up to Direct Debit.   Just call 08451 55 11 55.  You'll need the following information available: 

  • your name and address or your Council Tax reference number 
  • the name and address of your bank or building society
  • your bank or building society account number
  • the branch sort code of your bank or building society 
  • the name(s) on the account.


Alternatively, complete the mandate (link at bottom of page) and return it to;

Online

You can pay your Council Tax online by selecting the type of bill to be paid, entering your bill reference number and credit/debit card details.

Telephone Payments

You can pay your bill over the phone, using a debit or credit card.  Please telephone our automated payments number on 08451 55 00 55.  Make sure you have your card details, Council Tax account reference number and payment details available. This service is available 24 hours a day.

Please note there is no charge for debit card payments but there will be a charge of 1.25% for credit card payments.

Digital Banking

If you wish to pay your Council Tax via your own online banking system, you should enter Fife Council's bank account details which are;

Account Number: 00197596

 

You will also need your Council Tax Reference number.  Please note that payments may take 2-3 working days to reach our account.

At the Post Office

You can pay your Council Tax at any post office. If you want to use this service, you must use the barcode on your most recent bill or reminder notice. If you do not have a recent bill or reminder notice please complete the Council Tax bill request online form (link to right of page) and we will send one out to you. To find your nearest post office visit their site at www.postoffice.co.uk (takes you to an external website).

At a PayPoint

You can also pay your council tax at over 250 locations across Fife, wherever the PayPoint logo is displayed. These include a range of local shops and garages many of which are open seven days a week. You must use the barcode on your most recent bill or reminder notice each time you use this service. Postal Payments

Cheques should be crossed and made payable to 'Fife Council' and sent to:

Banking and Investment Team,
Fife Council,
North Street,
Glenrothes,
KY7 5LT.

Please make sure you include your payment reference on the back of your cheque. Without this reference number your payment may not be allocated to your account. Please allow 7 working days when sending cheque payments. Please do not send cash by post.

The front of your Council Tax bill shows the total amount to be paid, as well as the amount and due date of each instalment.

If you have lost or damaged your Council Tax bill, you can request a copy by completing the Bill Request online form - link attached to this page.

Your Council Tax is payable in 10 instalments and has to be paid by the 1st of the month from April and January.  If you pay by Direct Debit you can make payments on either the 1st or 15th of the month.

If you pay your bill annually, the payment is due on 1st July.
