Home safety
It is important for us all to feel safe and secure at home, but we may not be aware of all the dangers within our homes, or the small things we can do to help prevent accidents.
Fife Community Safety Partnership delivers the Fife Cares service throughout Fife, offering FREE home safety checks to people over 65 and child safety risk assessments to families with children under 5. Click on the link below to complete the online request form.
For example we check:
- Domestic appliances to ensure there is no damaged flexes, broken plugs or loose wires.
- Areas of danger where you could trip or fall.
- Microwave ovens for radiation leakage.
Minor repairs to cables, flexes or plugs will be done, free of charge, on the spot by the Home Safety Adviser. Each Home Safety Adviser is also trained to test smoke alarms and where appropriate will install new or replace old alarms with a ten-year smoke alarm free of charge.
Families are also offered small items of child safety equipment including blind cord shorteners and cleats, door jammers, corner cushions and multi locks.
In addition to the advice and equipment, when additional support or help is needed, the Home Safety Advisers are able to make onward referrals to the appropriate partner agencies.
The service is FREE and is available to homeowners, council tenants and private tenants across Fife.
