Prevention First - Housing Support
Most people want to live independently in their own homes, but sometimes you may need a little help to do so. Housing support is for anyone finding it difficult to manage in their home. You still have your own tenancy, but you can call on extra support and help.
You can use this service if you are a council tenant or a member of their household.
We work with you to look at issues like:
- housing choices
- general information and advice
- safety and security
- managing money
- life skills; or
- moving home.
We can also put you in touch with other agencies that can help. Housing support is really about enabling you to keep your independence or letting you know about the many other agencies in the area that can give you specialist help.
Specific Needs Housing
We can help if you need specialist housing for a short period of time, anything up to one year.
For example, we can arrange sheltered housing for people who are being discharged from hospital after long term care or as part of a hospital discharge programme. Or we can make living at home easier by arranging for a homecare worker to visit or for adaptations to be made to your home.
Our role is to help find you specialist care and support that means you can still live independently in the community.
Help for homeless people
We work with our partners to provide a range of supported housing options for homeless people. There are a number of hostels, furnished houses and flats provided by the council and a number of voluntary sector organisations. You can find out more about the range of services we have in place for homeless people by contacting your local Social Work Office. Locate your nearest Social Work Office by using the 'find my nearest' search facility on this page.
