Dr Fiona Bruce & Donna Dewar with replica of King Robert the Bruce's sword on loan from Abbot House
To celebrate St Andrew's Night, historian and TV presenter Dr Fiona Watson gave a talk on two of Scotland's national heroes at Dunfermline Carnegie Library on Thursday 30th November 2006.
The theme for the evening was Bruce v Wallace: who is the real Champion of Scotland? When invited by Fiona to choose between the two, the audience favoured Wallace by an overwhelming majority, but by the end of her talk, matters had changed and Fiona had persuaded the audience that both men are worthy of heroic status.
Cultural Services Librarian, Anne Gilmour, said:
"As this year marks the 700th anniversary of the coronation of King Robert the Bruce, it seemed the perfect topic for our St Andrew's Day event. We were absolutely delighted when Fiona said she was available to give a talk at the library to mark this occasion."
