The NHS in Fife is responsible for maintaining and improving the health of the population of Fife of just under 350,000 people.

Services
- Breast feeding
Breastfeeding makes a clear short and long-term contribution to the health of both Mother and Child. It is estimated that if all UK infants where exclusively breastfed, the hospital admissions each month would be halved and the number hospitalised with respiratory infection cut by a quarter. Mothers who do not breastfeed have an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer and are less likely to return to their pre-pregnancy weight.

This directory provides breastfeeding mothers with information on premises in Fife where they will be offered a private area in which to breastfeed. The information contained in this guide has been compiled from nominations by breastfeeding mothers living in Fife.
- Community Midwives
The Community Midwives visit women in their own homes from early in their pregnancy and up to twenty-eight days following the birth of the baby. They provide support and advice to the women and their families on an individual basis.

There are 2 main aspects to this subspecialty, one concentrating on problems that might affect the developing fetus and the second concerning problems pregnant women may encounter, particularly in the presence of other illnesses.

- GYNAECOLOGY SERVICES
There are 24 inpatient gynaecology beds based at Forth Park Hospital providing a comprehensive range of services to Fife women. All gynaecological emergencies are admitted to Forth Park Hospital. Day surgery is carried out at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy and Forth Park Hospital.

- Jolly Sixties Day and Lunch Club
A project that takes clients outwith their four walls, gives them support, help and advice, and checks on their wellbeing.
- Just Rural Development
A project that aims to motivate the public to eat healthy, nutritional, tasty food and lead a positive, healthy lifestyle.
- Neonatal Unit, Forth Park Hospital
The Neonatal Unit consists of 6 intensive care and 14 special care cots. All babies born in Fife who require special care from birth are admitted to the Unit at Forth Park Hospital. Over a period of 1 year we admit approximately 400 babies (10% of all babies born in Fife per year).
- New Ways Healthy Living Centre Project
Provides more assistance and faster responses to those with common mental health and alcohol problems, to give practical help encouraging a healthier diet, and to support families and survivors of sexual abuse.
- NHS 24
NHS 24 is a new confidential clinical service for Scotland.
In Fife, NHS 24 is linked with Fife Primary Care Emergency Service, which is based in Glenrothes, the Accident and Emergency departments in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy, and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
If you are ill and call your doctor’s surgery when it is closed – during the evening, at weekends or on public holidays - your call will be put through to NHS 24.

- Oakley Fruit and Vegetable Project
Fruit and veg stall run by volunteers, open one day a week in Oakley Health Centre.
- Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit, Victoria Hospital
The ambulatory care unit model of care is based on the philosophy that ‘children should not be admitted to hospital unless absolutely necessary.’ At the core of the service is a clear recognition that in many instances nursing care for children is best delivered in their own home using a family centred approach.
