Rothes Halls recently played host to the sixth National Festival of Youth Theatre (NFYT2010).
NFYT is an annual event, organised by Promote YT, the umbrella organisation for youth theatre in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Arts Council. This year for the first time the festival was held in Fife, jointly organised with Arts and Theatres Trust Fife (AttFife), with funding from the Fife Council Celebrating Fife 2010, Gannochy Trust and the Robertson Trust and sponsored by Shell UK.
The festival attracted over 300 participants from across Scotland, with groups also from England, Ireland and Norway. The young people took part in 16 shows, performance workshops and skills development and training sessions.
The 300 young people stayed under canvas at Fordell Firs National Activity Centre, at Hillend, near Dunfermline and were bussed into Rothes Halls each day.
The festival was opened by Fife Council’s Provost, Cllr. Frances M Melville, and Operations Manager for Shell UK, Alex Baird.
Promote YT Director, Colin Bradie, said that “the festival has been a massive success, with all the young people having enjoyed themselves immensely. We’ve all had such a great time, in fact, that we are talking to AttFife about breaking with tradition to hold the festival in Fife again next year”
